Summer Things to do for kids in Acton, Ontario

By Lia McNally

With summer just around the corner, it's not long before parents all over Acton hear the inevitable "I'm bored!  There's nothing to do!"

If suggestions to clean the garage are met with resistance, fear not because I've compiled a list of things to do, all within reasonable biking distance from the doorstep of your Acton home:

-Skate board or bike at the Acton Skate Park:  Located behind the Acton arena, this is one of the best skate parks around.  Your kids can work on their skills or just sit on the grass and watch some of the amazing talent.

-Hit golf balls at the driving range on Hwy. 7 and the Fourth line.

-Drop by Ice Dream for a cool treat.  Located in the Mac's plaza, this popular ice cream parlor offers a dizzying array of flavors, sure to please every kids taste.

-Pick out a good book at the Acton library.  Reading is simple pleasure often forgotten about by today's tech savvy kids.  Curling up with a novel is the perfect way to while away a rainy day.

-Set up a tent in the backyard and have a sleepover with friends.  The novelty of camping at home is made even better with a fresh bag of microwave popcorn and access to a washroom!

-Have a water gun fight.

-Visit the Acton Indoor pool and beat the heat with a swim.  Click on the link for the summer 2008 schedule.

-Explore the nature trails behind the Acton High School.

-See what Fairy Lake has to offer.  Bring a fishing rod and try your luck.  Play some tennis on the courts or bring Fido to play fetch with him at the dog park.

-Grab a bunch of friends and start a game Canada's favorite sport- of road hockey.

-Stop by any of the local schools and use the nets for a game of basketball.
